To provide an organisation for ASEAN Accountants for the further advancement of the status of the profession in the region with the view to establishing an ASEAN philosophy on the accounting profession.
AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) is the UK’s leading qualification and professional body for technical accountants and bookkeepers. We have nearly 124,000 members and students in over 105 countries worldwide, and have been helping people enter and build careers in the accountancy profession for over 40 years across all types of organisations.
AAT’s mission is to enable more people to access the opportunities a career in finance brings through our accessible, internationally recognised qualifications and supportive community. We aim to achieve this in three ways: keeping our profession relevant, driving up professional standards and building responsible business. This includes working to raise the profile of accounting technicians globally and establishing, maintaining and raising professional standards in select economies.
AAT’s Accounting Qualifications are the perfect foundation for further training, and generous exemptions to further study are offered by chartered and certified accountancy bodies such as ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA, ICAEW and ICAS. Currently AAT has 14 partnerships or exemption arrangements around the world, including in Hong Kong, Malaysia, New Zealand and Singapore.
Our accounting and bookkeeping courses provide students with the practical and technical skills needed to help boost their careers and ensure they are ready for the real world, by equipping them to adapt to a rapidly changing global business environment. AAT members are also required to keep their competence and skills up to date, and must comply with our regulations and relevant legislation. This benefits not only individual members and students, but also the companies and clients they work with and the wider accountancy profession around the world.
Additionally, AAT qualifications are used in Malaysia and Myanmar within the ASEAN region and they provide generous exemptions into senior accountancy bodies.
We were proud to be the first Accounting Technician body to become a full member of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC). This means we comply with IFAC’s statement of membership obligations concerning the adoption and implementation of international standards and codes of ethics, and the monitoring and discipline of our members. AAT remains committed to supporting AFA and IFAC in strengthening the profession and developing economies around the world by championing the use of skilled, qualified finance professionals.
